Some information about the author
I work for Futurelab, a UK charity examining the impact of technology in education, in part through the development of prototypical digital learning tools. I spent 6 months in Singapore last year, working with the Infocomm Development Agency on integrating some of our projects and process in Singapore, and with the Learning Sciences Lab, exploring theoretical approaches to the design of digital learning tools, and learnt a lot. At the moment I’m doing some futures work for the DCSF (Beyond Current Horizons, and some other things). And nothing written here is a reflection of any of their opinions.
I don’t know why I’m more comfortable claiming a professional identity than a personal one. I don’t like talking about myself — actually, I don’t like being the one to raise the subject. I would prefer you to have brought it up. If you had done that I would talk all day. Some things: I play the violin. My favourite colour is blue, on the whole. I don’t own any pets, although I prefer other people’s pets to like me and will go to some lengths to make friends with them. In the same way, I prefer it when other people’s children aren’t horrified by my presence: in some way, I suppose, I think that the approval of innocents validates my moral character. I like being outdoors more than I remember. I have never sailed a boat or been sand-yachting. When I was younger, the story of the Little Prince filled me with disquiet.
That will do for now.
